Select one of the short stories below to read and analyze. Applying critical thinking skills to your work, develop a question that can be supported by literary analysis and two critical essays.
Do a close reading of the work, making an analysis (explication) of the elements of the works, such as the characters, style, themes, symbolism, etc.
Make sure that your paper is a true essay, with an introduction, thesis, body, and conclusion.
Using The Method and the 10 on 1 techniques discussed in Writing Analytically (16-33, 105 – 117), you should be able to identify an interesting aspect and/or element of the story to write over.
Include two critical (that is secondary sources) sources in addition to the story (or primary source) and use direct quotes, paraphrases, and summaries that will support your thesis. The rule of thumb for direct quotes is about two short (under three lines) or one long (over three lines) quotes per page. Make sure you have a clear in-text citation that cross-references the quotes tot he works cited page. Also, see rules for the format for short quotes versus long block quotes.
